The eccentric personality of Brighton comes from the 18th century when King George IV, music lover, built his summer residence in Brighton – The Royal Pavilion – and called the area of Brighton “the perfect place for an obscene weekend”. The Royal Pavilion is also the main tourist attraction in Brighton, built by John Nash in a unique style. The exterior is of Indian architecture and looks very close to the popular Taj Mahal while the interior is designed in a Chinese style. Inside the pavilion you will find the Long Gallery, famous for its bamboo stairs and the room where royal banquets were held, furnished in rococo style, the music room with its nine lotus-shaped chandeliers and a large kitchen. Upstairs you will see the Southern Galleries and Queen Victoria’s Apartments. The pavilion has an impressive garden. Close to the garden you will find the Brighton’s Museum of Art, where you will find over twenty different galleries. You will be able to visit the Royal Pavilion during your tour to Brighton.
